My name is Natasha Roe MBACP registered counsellor. Everybody calls me Tasha so it is only right that I named my business Therapywithtasha. I want to introduce myself to you, I am a happy go lucky kind of person. I am a Leo and love connecting with people. As I mentioned being a Leo you can probably tell that I love astrology. I like the idea of it and feel like I resonate with my horoscopes. I enjoy music and tell everybody, "that's my kind of therapy." I am just an honest, kind, caring and loving person who wants the best for people. That is how I became a counsellor,
As you can probably tell from my website, I love nature. I enjoy walking outdoors and capturing the changing seasons. I also have a dog named Menace (by name and nature) he is literally my fur baby who enjoys a walk too. I have a passion for food and trying new restaurants especially with friends. It’s a wonderful way to connect and socialise.
I believe my love of Nature comes from Scotland. I am half Scottish (Dads side of the family), I love everything about Scotland. I feel really connected to my family when I visit. Although Scotland like Manchester can be cold that doesn't stop me wanting to visit in Autumn/Winter for the change of seasons. I love to travel abroad and enjoy visiting new places but Scotland has my heart.
I currently volunteer as a Befriender for Being There Salford. Being There is a local charity providing emotional support and practical assistance to people with cancer and other life limiting illnesses, along with those closest to them, such as family, friends and carers. https://beingthere.org.uk
My role is to listen and respond to concerns and worries that my client may have to ensure that they feel heard. This helps to promote well-being, reduces the risk of anxiety and keep people connected to others. I visit my client weekly and really enjoy spending time with them. They have said that they too enjoy spending time with me. It is an extremely rewarding experience.
The funny thing is I didn’t realise I wanted to be a counsellor until I had counselling. I was struggling on so many levels and I started becoming compulsive in my behaviours. On top of that I was dealing with anxiety and depression. I just felt completely lost and the compulsive side helped me to escape and forget my problems until it got out of hand and became one of my problems. I went to counselling to deal with my compulsive nature and suddenly felt safe and free from judgement. For the first time I felt I could speak freely and have the space to unpick my issues. The common theme for me was feeling stuck in my life and having no confidence to make changes. I desperately wanted to find a new direction but was crippled with fear. I began to realise that I was anxiety driven resulting in me staying in a job which was comfortable because it was all I knew. My therapist challenged me in ways that I am extremely grateful for now. She said, “What is going to change?” Suddenly I felt a rush of ideas, I could go back to studying, look for other jobs, work on my CV. The ideas and the actions came together and because I really wanted to make the changes I decided to do things one step at a time.
Whilst having counselling I began to realise that I needed structure. I spent most of my life at that point struggling with structure which resulted in me putting things off. I would get overwhelmed very easily and counselling and CBT helped me to overcome this. I learnt that I needed to make things simple and in order to complete tasks I needed to do things one step at a time. I gave myself a simple four step process to navigate the changes I needed to make.
Step One was to go to the community centre to work on my CV.
Step Two was to apply for jobs at the job club.
Step Three was to go to the open evening for the new upcoming courses.
Step Four became the step when I signed up to the Introduction to Counselling Course.
I never expected to become a Counsellor. 6 weeks of learning the basics of Counselling and how it can help people, and I was invested. I felt like I had found my calling in life. I continued my studies and began working with clients during the back end of Covid. I can’t describe the feeling I get from helping others. I have seen first-hand how counselling can change your life. I will always be grateful to my therapist for being there when I needed somebody. Counselling gave me a purpose and my confidence back and I want to give that back to others.
